Man Shot, Killed on the West Side [Updated]

Twenty-five-year-old Raymond D. Hayward was found slumped over a curb on Rose Park Place near Richmond Hill Avenue.

According to a statement released by Lt. Jim Matheny, among the multiple wounds Hayward received, one was to the back of the head. Hayward was pronounced dead at approximately 4:20 a.m.

The Stamford Police Department's Major Crimes Unit is looking for assistance from anyone who may have been in the area at approximately 4:30 a.m.. All calls will be confidential and can be made to 203-977-4417.

Capt. Conklin told Patch that the department has been conducting a neighborhood canvas search to speak with possible witnesses to Hayward's death. Investigators are also looking through videotapes from surveillance cameras near Richmond Hill Mini Market close to where the body was found.

A Stamford man was shot to death on the West side early Friday morning, according to Capt. Richard Conklin of the .

The department received multiple reports of shots fired on Rose Park Place near Richmond Hill Avenue at approximately 3:44 a.m. When officers arrived, Conklin said, they found Raymond D. Hayward, 25, of 72 Spruce St., slumped over a curb in front of a vacant lot.

Hayward, who was shot multiple times and was unresponsive, was transported to . He was pronounced dead shortly after.

According to Conklin, this is the second murder of the year in the city. The first was the murder of 30-year-old Leonel A. Rios Hernandez, who in the bedroom of his home on the East side from multiple injuries.
