Man Kills Attacking Rabid Raccoon In Stamford

A man who killed an attacking raccoon in Stamford will have to undergo testing and possible treatment after the animal tested positive for rabies, authorities said this week.

According to Stamford Animal Care & Control Shelter Director Laurie Hollywood, the man was doing work at an area church when he noticed the animal aggressively harassing a nearby group. When the man yelled at the animal, it turned and charged him.

The man used a nearby piece of wood to bludgeon the animal and, in the process, was covered with the creature's blood. The animal was sent out for testing, which confirmed the presence of rabies in Stamford.
