Man Faces Charges He Sexually Assaulted Wife

The suspect is accused of romancing woman he met at the Jamaican resort where he worked before moving to Stamford and convincing her to marry him.

A Jamaican national who Stamford Police say convinced a city woman to marry him after meeting her at the Jamaican resort where she vacationed, has been arrested on charges he physically and sexually assaulted her.

According to Sgt. Sean Scanlan of the Stamford Police Special Victims Unit, the victim came to police in May after the suspect began physically assaulting and sexually abusing her. The couple first met in September or October 2012 while the woman vacationed at an unidentified resort on the island of Jamaica where the suspect worked. A relationship developed and over several months, the suspect visited the woman in Stamford, Scanlan said.

He eventually moved in with her and convinced her to marry him in late April, according to Scanlan. "He was very nice and charming," Scanlan said. Shortly after their marriage, the abuse began and the woman came to police in May, Scanlan said.

Kevin Stone, 25, of 50 Stone Ridge Circle, Stamford, was arrested at 5 p.m. July 1 by police who obtained an arrest warrant charging him with third-degree assault and sexual assault in a spousal or cohabiting relationship, a felony.

"It's looking that he was trying to get a visa and citizenship" via marriage, Scanlan said. During their investigation, police discovered that there were two more women with whom the suspect had been involved in similar circumstances, Scanlan said. Both women are not Connecticut residents.

Scanlan said a court-set $50,000 bond was imposed and that Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a detainer on Stone, meaning that he will not be released from custody.
