According to  Capt. Richard Conklin, the department received "intel on the street" that Buzzeo was seeking to put a hit on his wife around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The two are in the middle of a divorce, he said, and Buzzeo's wife has a protective order against him.

Conklin said the department mobilized a "quick, concise investigation" and arranged for an undercover officer posing as a hit man to meet with Buzzeo at the southbound Darien Service Plaza.

"You have to keep in mind if he's plotting something like this — if he thought our guy wouldn't come through — maybe he'd try to find someone else," Conklin said.

Buzzeo met the undercover officer around 1:30 a.m. Friday at the service plaza's McDonald's, according to Conklin. As other officers observed and recorded their conversation, the two reportedly discussed the time frame and "lots of other specifics" of the supposed hit, including the need for $800 to buy a gun.

Conklin said police moved in to incerpt Buzzeo at around 2 a.m. Buzzeo reportedly declined to comment when he was arrested and requested to speak with a lawyer.

Buzzeo was . According to the Stamford Advocate, Supervisory Assistant State's Attorney Steven Weiss argued during Buzzeo's arraignment Friday that a $1.5 million bond should be set due to the previous charge and his alleged violation of a protective order.

Philip Russell, Buzzeo's Attorney, argued that bond be reduced to $150,000, the Advocate reported.
