Second Man Arrested for May 2010 Kidnapping, Sexual Assault [Update]

21-year-old Shefki Mahmutj was arrested Thursday.

After hearing that police were seeking him as the second suspect in the crime, Shefk Mahmutj, 21, of 95 Liberty Street, told officers his whereabouts and he was arrested on Thursday.

Mahmutj was charged with first-degree kidnapping and is being held on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 30.

Stamford police arrested Shahdan Sallaj, 30, of 19 Aquilla Road on Tuesday for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman outside of a Stamford nightclub in May 2010.

According to police, Sallaj and an accomplice identified as Shefki Mahmutaj met the victim inside the club and lured her outside. The two then forced her into a vehicle, drove her to a secluded spot in Stamford and sexually assaulted her.

Sallaj is charged with first-degree kidnapping and first-degree sexual assault. He is being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior court on March 29.
