Stamford Driver Faces DWI Charge After Police Witness Crash

DWI was just one of the charges Greenwich Police lodged against the driver.

A  driving while intoxicated charge is just one that a motorist is facing after a Greenwich Police officer reportedly saw the driver run a red light and crash into another car.

According to a Greenwich Police report, Officer Troy Lloyd witnessed the 2:15 a.m. crash April 13 on the Post Road at Relay Place in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich.

The driver, identified as Marcos Penaranda, 29, of 294 Shippan Ave., Stamford, was found to have an odor of alcohol and glassy, bloodshot eyes, according to the report. Penaranda also allegedly failed field sobriety tests. The report did not indicate whether anyone was injured in the crash.

In addition to the DWI charge, Penaranda also was charged with failure to drive in proper lane and operating a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle without a license. He was released after posting a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear April 21 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
