Girlfriend Black & Blue, Boyfriend Arrested

A 24-year-old woman arrived at Stamford police headquarters Sunday with a black eye and a black and blue lower chin; her boyfriend was charged with making them that way.

A 26-year-old Stamford man, in an argument with his girlfriend on Sunday, slapped her so hard that she fell and hit her head against a wall, then he began choking her, police said.

Stamford police gave this account of what happened next:

The woman took her four-year-old daughter with her as she ran out of the Sheriden home she shared with Bruce Colas and took shelter with a friend. Later that day she showed up at Stamford police headquarters.

The woman indicated she wanted advice on what to do next, but she would not sign a statement and didn't seem to want Colas arrested. Police could see that her right eye and lower chin were black and blue.

Later, Colas, who is on probation, visited police headquarters and was arrested on charges of third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, second-degree breach of peace, interfering with an emergency call and risk of injury to a minor.

He was held on $50,000 bond before appearing the next day, Monday, in state Superior Court in Stamford.
