Former Stamford Police Chief Named Interim Head of East Haven PD

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo has made it official: he will be appointing former Stamford Police Chief Brent Larrabee as the interim head of the

A brief press conference will be held at 11 a.m. in the Community Room, 277 Main Street (across from Town Hall) in East Haven, CT.

Public Reception

Immediately following, a public reception will be held, also in the Hagaman Memorial Library Community Room, where members of the East Haven community are encouraged to attend and meet the Interim Chief.

"Brent is exactly the kind of leader we need in East Haven right now," Maturo stated in a press release announcing the appointment Monday morning. "He brings a career of policing experience working to provide community oriented, progressive public safety practices in diverse communities."

Several had indicted that Maturo had decided on Larrabee to fill the interim police chief post, after former Police Chief Leonard Gallo

And it appears that that choice has now been made official.

"I look forward to working with the Mayor, the Officers in the Department, community leaders and neighborhood groups to strengthen confidence in policing and bring a standard of excellence to East Haven," Larrabee stated in the release.

Long Police Career

According to the mayor's office, Larrabee previously served as Chief in the Stamford Police Department from 2005 to 2010 where he lead the police force to implement neighborhood policing, created community coalitions and worked to diversify the agency, all while keeping the focus on providing responsible public safety.

In 2008, Chief Larrabee received the Distinguished Police Chief’s Award from the Police Commissioner’s Association of Connecticut.

Previously, Larrabee rose through the ranks of the Framingham, Mass. Police Department. He become the department's police chief in 1987. Most recently, he has been consulting law enforcement agencies on all aspects of operations, the mayor's office reported.

Larrabee holds his Master’s degree in Public Administration from Framingham State College in Framingham, Mass/ and a Bachelor’s of Science in Law Enforcement from Northeastern University in Boston. Both degrees reportedly earned with honors.
