Video: Fairway Market's Firefighter Food Face-Off

Local fire departments test their grilling skills at Fairway Market in Stamford.

[Editor's Note: This article has been updated to include the correct date of the Ridgefield Fire Department's "Shopping Night" at Fairway.]

The Ridgefield Fire Department Local 1739 beat out Noroton Heights Fire Department, Stamford Professional Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 786 and Stamford Volunteer Fire Department for the title. Each team made ribs, burgers and turkey burgers and the judging was based on taste and originality.

The judges were Jodi Helman of Stamford Patch; Chris Prevolos of the Stamford Advocate; Lou Gorfain of CTBites; Ray Venezia, 's master butcher; Steve Jenkins, Fairway's cheesemonger.

Speaking on behalf of the judges, Venezia said the Ridgefield Fire Department used secret ingredients to best bring out the flavor of the ribs. 

The winners won a $500 grocery gift card to Fairway and named the charity of their choice to participate in a "Shopping Night" at the grocery store. The firefighters selected Social Services of Ridgefield as the recipient, and the organization will go on their spree on Thursday, July 13 from 4-10 p.m.
