Elderly Stamford Woman Injured, Sister Killed In Car Vs. Pole Collision

An elderly Stamford woman was killed while riding with her sister on Thursday morning.

The Stamford PD is actively investigating the cause of a morning car accident which led to the death of an 81 year old Stamford woman.

"A 2006 Ford Crown Victoria 4-door sedan was traveling north on Halloween
Boulevard," SPD's Jeffrey Booth stated in a recent press release. According to SPD, the driver, Carmella Abbazia, 86, collided with a utility pole on Halloween Blvd. at 7:35 a.m. Thursday morning.

Abbazia suffered injuries, but her passenger and sister, Antoinette Palmieri, 81, died.

"Initial investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Halloween Blvd. when it left the roadway, mounted the curb on the East side of the road and struck a utility pole," SPD reports. SPD's accident and collision division is looking into the possibility that "speed and mechanical failure" may have been factors in the accdient, as well.
