Elderly Stamford Male Sentenced For Racketeering

A US District judge has sentenced Stamfords' Nicola Melia to five years in prison for racketeering and other felonies, according to US Attorney David B. Fein.

Stamford's 79-year old Nicola Melia was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday for violation of probation and illegal arms possession among several other charges, according to the office of the United Stated Attorney for CT.

"Nicola Melia, also known as “Nick,” 79, of Stamford, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven to 60 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for collecting an extension of credit by extortionate means, illegally possessing ammunition, and violating his supervised release from a 2005 federal racketeering conviction," the office of David B. Fein announced.

Melia was also fined $50,000, and forced to surrender $253,800.
