DUI Charge for Stamford Man on Darien's West Avenue

A 31-year-old man is charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol on West Avenue early Saturday morning.

 

Darien police charged a 31-year-old man with driving while under the influence of alcohol early Saturday morning.

Police gave this account of the incident and arrest:

At about 12:20 a.m., Mark Carwood of Stamford was driving a 2011 Audi A4 west on West Avenue when a police officer saw the car and thought it was speeding. (Carwood, however was not charged with speeding.)

The vehicle was stopped near the intersection of West and Herman Avenues. When the officer spoke to Carwood, he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on him.

Carwood, of 1340 Washington Blvd., failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol as well as operating a motor vehicle without a license and failure to rdive right.

He posted $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Stamford on Dec. 10.
