Declined Drink Results in Stabbed Lung at Stamford Taco Bar

Stamford Police responded to a stabbing early Monday morning after a man attacked a patron at a taco bar with a knife he found at the bar, authorities said later that day.

According to Capt. Richard Conklin, 36-year-old Oscar Machado asked the victim to buy him a drink at Hugo's Tacos at 161 Stillwater Avenue during the early morning hours Monday when the victim declined.

Conklin said Machado, of an unknown address and possibly transient, took a large knife off the bar and stabbed the victim in the upper back area, piercing one of the victim's lungs.

Several patrons at the establishment tackled the suspect to the ground when they witnessed the incident, and one of those taking Machado to the ground suffered a slash to his stomach, Conklin said.

Both victims were transported to Stamford Hospital with the victim stabbed in the back being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Machado was charged by authorities with possession of a dangerous weapon and two counts of first-degree assault. He has a court date pending, though the court has been having some issues with the current cold snap.
