Darien Teen Issued Marijuana Infractions in New Canaan

A Darien teen was charged last Monday with two narcotics-related infractions and issued a verbal warning for unsafe driving when he allegedly attempted to speed away from approaching New Canaan police.

According to Sgt. Carol Ogrinc on Monday, June 10, officers spotted a vehicle with occupants parked in a lot at approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3.

As officers approached the vehicle, the driver, identified as Benjamin Sickinger, 18, of 17 Birch Road, backed out of the space "at an unsafe speed" and took off, Ogrinc said.

Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on Tullmage Hill Road and, when the occupant was asked during the course of questioning whether or not they had any drugs present, produced a bag of what appeared to be marijuana, Ogrinc said.

Police also discovered a multicolored bowl with what appeared to be marijuana residue in the vehicle, according to Ogrinc.

Ogrinc said Sickinger was issued infractions for possession and issued a verbal warning for his driving.
