Darien Police Charge Stamford Man with DUI

Darien police charged a 35-year-old man with driving while under the influence of alcohol last Friday on Hoyt Street.

Darien Police charged a 35-year-old Stamford man with driving while under the influence of alcohol just after midnight last Friday on Hoyt Street, north of Camp Avenue.

Police gave this account of the incident:

At about 12:08 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, a police officer saw a 2010 Toyota Corolla driving south on Hoyt Street.

The officer followed the car, saw it cross the center line several times and stopped the car near the intersection of Hoyt Street and Camp Avenue. When speaking with the driver, Keshab Chapagain of Stamford, the officer saw his eyes were glassy and smelled alcohol.

Chapagain, of 22 Glenbrook Rd., failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and failure to drive right. He was released on a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear Nov. 12 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
