Officers dispatched to Cove Rd. for reports of a burglar alarm arrived to find the alleged suspect still on scene, police announced Tuesday morning.
Authorities said they arrived at the La Placita Market in the 500 block of Cove Rd. at approximately 2 a.m. and approached the store, which had its front door smashed in, when a man dressed all in black appeared.
Police said the man, identified as Woodrow Wendell Baker, 51, of S. Pacific St., had all black clothes on and attempted to walk away from the scene when police approached him.
Authorities said he was ordered to stop at gunpoint, but struggled with officers until backup arrived and he was able to be taken into custody.
Out front of the store, on the ground, police said they spotted two packs of unopened cigarettes. On Baker's person, police said they found an additional two packs of unopened cigarettes and four bags of marijuana.
Baker was charged with third-degree burglary, interfering with an officer/resisting, possession of marijuana less than one gram and second-degree criminal mischief.
Baker was held on a $50,000 bond.
