New Canaan police issued this news release Wednesday morning about two traveling home-repair men who reportedly snuck into an elderly man's house as he discussed the bill with a third coworker:

On May 13 at approximately 12:35 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Old Stamford Road after receiving a 911 call from an elderly male who reported a suspicious incident involving three men.

The three men arrived at the residence and offered to seal the homeowner’s driveway. The men told the homeowner the first coating was free and that the homeowner would have to pay for additional coats. The homeowner agreed and the men sealed the driveway.

The simple trick

When the homeowner walked outside to pay the men only one was standing in the driveway. This male engaged the homeowner in conversation.

The homeowner walked back into his residence and saw the other two men standing in his living room. The homeowner called 911 and the two men ran from the residence to their vehicle.

The suspects are described as black males approximately 5 feet, 8 inches to five feet, 10 inches tall. They were operating a black pickup truck with a black cab over the bed. The truck had white lettering on the driver’s door which read “A & B.”

Anyone with information can contact the New Canaan Police Department at 203-594-3500.
