Cops: K-9 Unit Detects Cocaine in Car Stopped in Stamford

Officers on patrol in Stamford early Thursday morning arrested two men on drug charges after a K-9 unit allegedly discovered cocaine in their vehicle.

According to authorities, officers on patrol in the vicinity of Greenwich Avenue and Selleck Street Thursday at approximately 12:38 a.m. witnessed two men leaving the Moja Cafe and get into a vehicle with dark-tint windows and a partially obscured license plate.

Police said a motor vehicle stop was conducted as the men drove away based on those violations, but notices the men allegedly active suspicious when they approached the vehicle.

Both men's hands were visibly shaking, police said, and they occupants were breathing rapidly. The passenger allegedly would not stop fidgeting in his pockets.

K-9 unit Cooper arrived on scene, and police said he indicated an area that they said contained more than six grams of cocaine packages for individual sale in a number of ziplock bags.

The driver, identified as Emmanuel Gonzalez, 21, of Ely Street in Norwalk, was charged with possession of narcotics, sale of certain illegal drugs and conspiracy charges on both counts.

The passenger, identified as Edwin Mondragon, 27, of Elizabeth Street, faces identical charges. Both were given court dates of June 5 and held on $10,000 bond.
