Police have already charged one teen and are looking to press additional charges in a case where a group attacked and beat a lone victim at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Monday, police said later that morning.

Lt. Diedrich Hohn said a group of 6 black males surrounded a single Hispanic male in his mid-20s in the area of 120 Atlantic Street near Elite Night Club when a 16-year-old in the group attacked. Hohn said the teen began to punch and kick the man and continued to do so until the man was unconscious.

When officers responded to the scene, the group had dispersed but authorities canvassing the area spotted a group of males in the vicinity of Suburban Avenue and Main Street. When police approached the group and were spotted, they said the group took off running.

A 16-year-old and 14-year-old were detained shortly after, and the 16-year-old positively identified by two witnesses as the attacker, police alleged.

The 16-year-old was charged with second-degree assault. The 14-year-old was released into the custody of his parents. Hohn said the investigation would continue and he expected more charges to follow.

The victim was released Monday morning after receiving treatment at Stamford Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
