Convicted Murderer Later Proven Innocent To Speak In Stamford

Jeffrey Deskovic, who spent 16 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, will be in Stamford, lecturing against the death penalty on Oct. 21.

Exonerated killer Jeffrey Deskovic will hold a speaking engagement at Stamford's next Friday, where he will lecture against the death penalty in Connecticut.

"Jeffrey Deskovic will share his tragic story of false conviction and imprisonment, as well as his compelling reasons for Connecticut to repeal the death penalty, on Friday evening October 21st in Stamford at Temple Beth El," an official press release stated. "Today, Deskovic is working to turn the tragedy he experienced into a positive. Since his release, he has become an advocate for ending the death penalty and reforms to reduce wrongful convictions."

Deskovic, who was 17 when he was convicted of murdering Angela Correa in 1989, was exonerated of the crime in 2006 due to DNA evidence and a new trial. Since 2006, Deskovic has been an outspoken advocate of repealing the death penalty.
