A man seen peering into cars parked near the Stamford Train Station on Station Place is facing several charges after leading Stamford Police on a foot chase.
James Keitt, 23, of 5 Barnstable Ln., Stamford, was arrested July 3 about 12:30 a.m. and faces charges of carrying a dangerous weapon, interfering with police, refusing to be fingerprinted and possession of a hallucinogen.
According to Sgt. Sean McGowan, Keitt was spotted by two patrol officers, looking into cars parked near the Stamford Train Station, an area where there have been several car burglaries. As the officers passed by him, Keitt reportedly hid his face and then broke into a full sprint when one of the officers approached him.
With one officer running after him and the other chasing him in a patrol car, Keitt was caught a short distance away on Washington Boulevard. When the officers asked why he ran, Keitt told them the reason was because he had a knife in his backpack.
A search of the backpack yielded a meat cleaver, gloves, a flashlight and a plastic bag containing four pills, two of which tested positive for methamphetamine, McGowan said.
Keitt was unable to post $75,000 bond.
