A Stratford woman went to New Canaan police last Saturday to report a hit-and-run accident in which the young female with blonde streaks in her hair had driven off after rear-ending the victim, police said.
Then the young woman had driven off, onto the southbound lanes of the Merritt Parkway. The victim followed her however, and got her license plate and a description of the car, police said.
And then the shocker: The driver wasn't just a young female -- she was a 14-year-old without a license, driving a 2002 Acura owned by her grandfather, who is her guardian.
New Canaan police gave these other details in their account (an accusation not proven in court) about the incident.
Both vehicles were driving north on Old Stamford Road (Route 106) in New Canaan when the victim stopped for a traffic light near the Merritt Parkway entrance.
That's when she was rear-ended by the other car. Her car, a 2012 Toyota Camry, was dented and its rear bumper was cracked by the collision. The driver was also hurt. She complained of neck pain and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
The 30-year-old Stratford woman told police that the other driver drove around her vehicle and then took a left turn onto the Merritt Parkway.
New Canaan police asked Stamford police to get in touch with the owner of the vehicle. Several hours later, the owner, the grandfather and guardian of the 14-year-old, showed up at New Canaan police headquarters.
The girl was charged with evading the scene of an accident with an injury, following too close and driving without a driver's license. She is scheduled to appear at a later date in Juvenile Court at the state Superior Courthhouse in Stamford.
