Bride and Groom Jump to Escape Fire in Stamford
The couple reportedly jumped from separate second story windows as flames and smoke quickly spread throughout a Newfield Avenue home, where about 50 people had been attending a pre-wedding party.
An early Sunday morning fire at a home on Newfield Avenue where a party was taking place reportedly forced a bride and groom scheduled to be married next week to jump from second-story windows to escape the flames and smoke.
According to a report in the Stamford Advocate, Fahad Sheikh, 30, and his fiance, Zuhra, jumped from the second story windows as flames and smoke quickly spread throughout the residence, where about 50 people had been attending a pre-wedding party.
Zuhra reportedly sustained minor injuries including a bump on her head and some scrapes, according to the report. She was reportedly transported to Stamford Hospital, where she was treated and released.

The other people attending the party reportedly escaped the fire without injury.
According to the report, the two-alarm fire was reported at 1:54 a.m., when one of the partygoers noticed smoke coming from the basement. When firefighters arrived they saw fire emanating from two sides of the house and the roof. The reportedly fire spread quickly throughout the house.

Nine units from Stamford Fire & Rescue, along with units from Belltown, Springdale and Turn of River, responded to the fire, the report states. Police reportedly had to close sections of Newfield Avenue and Weed Hill Avenue to traffic to allow room for fire apparatus.
Firefighters reportedly had to use an excavator to tear down a wall of the house in order to fully extinguish the blaze.
