Bomb Scare at Stamford Courthouse [PHOTOS] [UPDATE]

Stamford Courthouse was evacuated for a possible bomb threat; will remain closed until 2 p.m.

Judicial Marshal Genaro Alvarado confirmed with Patch that police were alerted to a plastic bag that was placed in a garbage can outside of the courthouse by a woman who then entered the building.

Alvarado also confirmed that the contents of the bag did not contain anything harmful, but that state police would keep the building closed until they complete a sweep with canine officers.

The woman was not taken into custody by police, but was given a ride home in an ambulance.

The state Superior Court will remained closed until 2 p.m., according to police.

Members of the Stamford Police Department Bomb Squad have suited up twice at the rapidly evacuated downtown Friday morning, following a bomb scare.

At about 12:10 p.m., a robot was activated just as a bomb squad member suited up again.
