Body of Junior Volunteer Firefighter Found in Stamford

Officials have confirmed that the body found in a field off of Highland Road was that of 20-year-old Eryk "Rooster" Kogut, a junior volunteer with the Glenbrook Fire Department.

A body that was found on Saturday in a field off of Highland Road by a landscaping crew has been identified as 20-year-old Eryk "Rooster" Kogut, a junior volunteer with the , according to the Stamford Advocate.

Although police are still checking dental records, Kogut's cousin Monika Wenta and as well as officials from the Glenbrook Fire Department have identified the body as Kogut.

According to Captain Richard Conklin of the , it is not clear yet how Kogut died because of the "advanced stage of decomposition." An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday.

Conklin added that the body might have been in the field for two weeks or longer.
