Baseball Bat Attack Victim in 'Grave Condition' [UPDATE]

Updated: July 18, 2013; 6:45 p.m.
The 46-year-old victim in a vicious baseball bat attack late Wednesday remains in "grave condition with life-threatening injuries" at Stamford Hospital Thursday evening, according to Stamford Police.

Capt. Richard Conklin said the victim suffered severe head injuries in the attack at 48 Aberdeen St. at about 10:25 p.m., July 16. Conklin said police won't release the identity of the victim—a Stamford man—until they locate his family. "We're having trouble locating his family ... whether they're in the country," Conklin said.

Conklin said the victim had been harassing the suspect and his wife for about a year-and-a-half. The couple had filed complaints with Stamford Police and had obtained a restraining order against the victim. "Things quieted down for a while and the restraining order expired. Then it started up again," Conklin said.

According to Conklin, the victim, who was struck in the head multiple times in the head, has an arrest record on charges stemming from harassing the couple.

The charge against the husband, Rodolfo Calate-Morente, 35, of 48 Aberdeen St., could be upgraded should the victim not survive, Conklin said. "He made a confession," Conklin added.
