[Update] Accident Involving Police Cruiser Sends Five to Area Hospitals

The police cruiser and Honda Ridgeline involved in Monday morning's accident have suffered heavy damage, but all parties involved in the crash are expected to recover.

Update, 1:30 p.m.

All but two people involved in this morning's two-car collision on Washington Blvd., which involved a police cruiser and a Honda Ridgeline, have been treated and released from Stamford Hospital according to local police.

"Independent witnesses report both vehicles had green traffic control signals. Washington Blvd northbound is posted for ‘No Left Turn," SPD reports.

Officer Christopher Petrizzi, driver of the police cruiser, was treated for "broken bones and soft tissue injuries."

"The Honda had four occupants, operator Victoria Church age 24 of Dale Street Stamford, CT, a 30 year old male Florida resident, a 25 year old female Stamford resident and a 25 year old male Rye, NY resident. Church and the Florida resident were treated and released at Norwalk Hospital. The other Stamford resident was treated and released at Stamford Hospital while the Rye resident is still undergoing treatment," SPD reports.

No charges have been filed in the incident.

A officer was reportedly hospitalized with broken bones and other injuries early Sunday morning after his police cruiser struck a vehicle on Washington Boulevard.

According to a report in the Stamford Advocate, Officer Christopher Petrizzi was responding to a report of a stabbing in a parking garage at about 2:07 a.m. when his cruiser slammed into a Honda Ridgeline attempting to make a U-turn on Washington Boulevard near Hoyt Street. Four people in the vehicle that was struck, including the driver, were also reportedly transported to area hospitals with injuries.

According to the report, both vehicles sustained heavy damage in the crash. Police said the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Squad is investigating the accident. So far, no charges have been filed.
