A 14 year-old Stamford boy died on Thursday after his off-road motorcycle collided with his 16 year-old brother's motorcycle while the two were riding on city-owned property on Long Ridge Road, according to a statement released by Sgt. Andrew Gallagher of the .

Police responded to a 911 call at 1:51 p.m. after a resident adjacent to the property reported hearing cries for help. A volunteer firefighter living nearby was the first to arrive at the scene.

Kevin Bella, 14, and his brother Brandon were transported to for treatment. Kevin died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision, while Brandon sustained life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition.

An investigation by the department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad indicated that the two motorcycles approached each other head-on and collided "slightly offset." According to the Stamford Advocate, the brothers were both wearing helmets and protective gear.

The property where the brothers were found is one-quarter of a mile from the Long Ridge Road entrance, is owned by the city and is a former leaf recycling facility, according to Gallagher. Concrete blocks are used at the entrance to prevent vehicular access.

The parents are to blame for this! 1) They let their children ride their motorbikes illegally on public streets to get to the woods. 2) They let their children ride their motorbikes on town-owned property which is illegal. They were destroying the woods.

Chills ran through me as I read the ignorance of the first comment here. An accident is defined as unintentional regardless of where it took place it was unintentional and accidents can happen to anyone at anytime. Shame on u for being so ignorant! I pray for this mother and the pain she going through right now. God is good and I pray he holds your 14yr old tightly in his arms and embraces your 16yr through this recover. Stay strong mom he needs you!

I work at the school where Kevin Bella was about to go into the 8th grade. We, staff, received an e-mail about this tragedy. A teacher from another school is collecting checks to be made out to Mrs. Debbie Bella. You can send a check to (I am sending one tomorrow.) Roxbury School 751 West Hill Rd Stamford CT 06902 C/O Deena Melchionno I live in Fairfield and am HORRIFIED about what "Fairfield Resident" wrote...how cruel, how unfeeling...how inhumane. As someonew wrote, the father died this past July. Prayers and strength to Mrs. Bella and her family.

Your a sick heartless bastard! A Mother just lost a precious gift , her son, and another in critical condition , and the first thing you think of, and say is to point blame on the parents. This is a horrific tradgedy that no parent should have to go through. And kids will be kids , you can not keep your eyes on them 24/7 although we would like to , it's just not reality. That's a family that recently had the loss of there Father , now this , it's just not something you would think possible. The poor Mother, the brother and sisters. God forbid they read or hear about your heartless , rediculous comment. You should crawl under a rock and stay there. It's a time for careing , feelings for this familiy , not blame. That word should not even have come up in anyones mind , let alone a post. Grow a heart .

Helmet would have prevented this. So "if your a parent" would you want your child to wear one?
Amy Geigner August 21, 2012 at 09:03 AM
read the article before you post about not wearing a helmet. both boys were in full gear.
