A 14 year-old Stamford boy died on Thursday after his off-road motorcycle collided with his 16 year-old brother's motorcycle while the two were riding on city-owned property on Long Ridge Road, according to a statement released by Sgt. Andrew Gallagher of the .
Police responded to a 911 call at 1:51 p.m. after a resident adjacent to the property reported hearing cries for help. A volunteer firefighter living nearby was the first to arrive at the scene.
Kevin Bella, 14, and his brother Brandon were transported to for treatment. Kevin died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision, while Brandon sustained life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition.
An investigation by the department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad indicated that the two motorcycles approached each other head-on and collided "slightly offset." According to the Stamford Advocate, the brothers were both wearing helmets and protective gear.
The property where the brothers were found is one-quarter of a mile from the Long Ridge Road entrance, is owned by the city and is a former leaf recycling facility, according to Gallagher. Concrete blocks are used at the entrance to prevent vehicular access.
