Stamford Resident Kim Dickinson Gives 1,000 Hours for Person-to-Person, Earns Honors as 2012 Outstanding Adult Volunteer

Recognized for her exceptional commitment to voluntarism, Kim Dickinson of Stamford has been awarded Outstanding Adult Volunteer for 2012 by the Stamford chapter of The Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut .  Nominated by community leaders on the basis of achievement and commitment, Kim earned the honors through her work with Darien-based Person-to-Person, logging in more than 1,000 hours of donated time in 2012.

In addition to physically working onsite at the agency twice a week, Kim served as chairperson for P2P’s annual Holiday Dove Program. Heading the Dove initiative for the second year, Kim coordinated 12 churches and 20 social service agencies throughout the area, collecting Dove boxes filled with non-perishable foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 780 Stamford families.

Previously in 2011, Kim served P2P as Interim In-Kind Manager and was responsible for bringing in more than $2.0 million in in-kind donations in just 6 months, including coat and food drives, as well as local retail donations.

Though Person-to-Person serves all communities in SW Fairfield County, as a Stamford resident, Kim particularly enjoys focusing her efforts within her own community.

“I feel so strongly about building awareness for P2P,” explains Kim. “Our mission is quite simply, to respond to individuals and families who lack the basic necessities or resources to improve their lives. I’ve only lived in Stamford for two years, but it became very clear to me that there is a great need in Stamford for many of the services P2P offers.”

“Person-to-Person is so proud of Kim and this exceptional recognition she has received,” says Janet King, Volunteer Director for Person-to-Person.  “Kim is a tribute to our work. And her quiet, gracious spirit, and genuine warmth consistently reflects P2P’s mission to treat our clients with dignity and respect.”

About Person-to-Person
Person to Person was established in 1968 to access and use local resources to help those in need and help others learn about the impact of poverty and injustice. The organization’s efforts to help began with food and clothing and have grown to include financial assistance for emergencies, camperships so children would be safe during the summer while their parents worked, and college scholarship aid to help break the cycle of poverty. P2P is always looking for great volunteers to carry the mission of providing assistance and aid to those who need help. For more information on volunteering at P2P, please contact Janet King at 203-655-0048.
