WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE OBSESSED WITH PHARRELL WILLIAMS’ SONG
“HAPPY?”

I just saw Pharrell Williams on GMA performing “Happy” on a
“room without a roof!”

I’ve read the comments on-line and I know there are some
people who are sick of the song “Happy” and Pharrell’s hat.  But not me!  I can’t speak for everyone who loves
“Happy.”  Those who love this song as
much as I do may all have different reasons or meanings for why they love it.  I want to try and explain my obsession with
the song and how it makes me feel.

When I listen to “Happy,” it’s like the effects of a tonic
for me – no, it has literally become a drug for me – a feel good, addicting
drug!  I feel something I can’t explain
deep inside my soul.  It feels good.  I can’t help singing it and clapping to
it.  The song is on my iPod, iPad,
Samsung Galaxy 4S and my iTunes library.
If no one is around, I dance to it too.
If the video comes on, I’m rushing to turn up the volume.  I blast it when it’s on the radio. I’m 57 years
old and addicted to “Happy” despite being unemployed, despite being unable to
land another job; despite no unemployment benefits; despite a disconnected
phone; despite being two months behind in my rent; and despite facing
eviction.  No, “Happy” doesn’t make me
forget all my problems nor make them go away, nor will it get me a job, but the song takes the out the
sting – the depression when I hear it.  “Happy” is not a
“forget all your problems” song.  “Happy”
is more like a “feel confident and better about yourself” song.  If you feel more confident and better about
who and what you are, and what you want, you will feel more “Happy.”

“Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof.  Clap along if you feel like happiness is the
truth.  Clap along if know what happiness
is to you.  Clap along if you feel like
that’s what you wanna do!”

Well said, Pharrell and thank you, the producers and
everyone involved with “Happy!”
