Obituary: Ruth Jacobs, 89; Retired Social Services Employee

Services will be held Sunday in North Carolina.


Ruth Coppelman Jacobs of Stamford, died on July 3, having fully lived a long and happy life. She was 89.

She was born on June 22, 1924 to Jacob and Fannie (Zola) Coppelman and grew up in Philadelphia.

In 1948 she married Morris Jacobs and they made their home in Greensboro, NC, where she was a long-time member of Beth David Synagogue.
 
Mrs. Jacobs worked in the Social Services Department in Guilford County, NC. Her greatest loves were her family and friends, and she enjoyed cooking for and entertaining them. She also loved gardening and filled her home with flowers from her garden every summer.

She began jogging long before it became a popular activity, and she briefly carried the Olympic Torch when it passed through Greensboro. After she retired, she enjoyed volunteering, working with the old, the young, and those in need. She was married to her wonderful husband Morry for 44 years until he died in 1992. She and her husband enjoyed traveling the world together. Mrs. Jacobs loved her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them at the beach, going to water parks, and baking goodies for them. 

Surviving are her children, Barbara Jacobs of Stamford and Rick Jacobs of Wilmington, NC; two grandchildren, Marc and Suzanne Cohen; her sisters Ellie Madres and husband Len and Ethel Levenson, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She has left her friends and family many memories to remember her.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Beth David Synagogue with Rabbi Elizer Havivi officiating. Burial will follow in the Greensboro Hebrew Cemetery.
