Obituary: Mary Esther Hart, 97; Taught Reading in Stamford Schools

Mary Esther Hart, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on July 9, at Stamford Hospital. She was 97.

She was born on April 23, 1916 in Stamford to the late John H. and Jane L. McNamara Hart.

Esther was employed with the City of Stamford as a reading teacher for 40 years before her retirement. She received her bachelor of science degree from The New Haven State Teachers College, Class of 1945, and received her master's degree from the University of Bridgeport in 1961.

She is survived by several cousins.

Besides her parents, Esther was predeceased by her twin sister, Sister Elizabeth Hart of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, and two brothers, Harry and John Hart.

Family and friends may call at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 11, with a prayer service following at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. John's RC Cemetery, Darien.
