Henry J. Skibinski, 87; Active Member of Holy Name of Jesus Church, WWII Veteran

Calling hours are Tuesday, Feb. 11 and the funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 12.



Henry J. Skibinski, a design and drafting supervisor, died at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Trumbull. He was 87.

He was born on July 6, 1926 to the late Joseph and Helen Piorkowski Skibinski. The family moved to Stamford in 1929.

Henry graduated from the Holy Name of Jesus School and Wright Technical School and also attended Bridgeport Engineering School. He was a Design and Drafting Supervisor and retired from Valley Lab a Pfizer Medical Co after many years of service.

He was a US Army WWII veteran and a member of the VFW Post #9617. Henry was an accomplished accordion player and had his own band from 1950 to 1975, playing for weddings, dances and parties.  He also donated his services at many affairs for the Holy Name of Jesus Church and local nursing homes.  

He was an active member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church where he was a choir member, president of the parish council, a trustee, was chairman of the committees which organized the celebrations to commemorate the parish’s 75th anniversary , co-chairman of the 100th anniversary and co-chairman of the elevator committee.

He was an active member of the Holy Name Athletic Club, serving on the board for many years. He was former president and was elected Man of the Year in 1985. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, council #41, Polish Cultural Society, and the Polish National Alliance.

He married Winifred Sobieski on Nov. 4, 1950 at Sacred Heart Church in the Byram section of Greenwich. 

In addition to his wife, Mr. Skibinski is survived by three children, Stephen (Lyn) Skibinski of Bridgewater, MA, Kathryn (and Sam) Wuhrer of Milford, and Susan (Richard) Hudson of Wilton; six grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Skibinski of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Stanley.

Family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 369 Washington Blvd., Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John Roman Catholic Cemetery in Darien.
