Florence Rossman Asch, 88; Co-Founder of Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Program

Florence Rossman Asch, passed away on Dec. 6, 2013, following complications from Parkinson's Disease. She was 88.

She was born in New York City, a daughter of Jerome I. and Alva Brussel Rossman. 

Following graduation from Virginia Intermont College she worked for Coronet and Esquire Publishers in New York City. In 1948 she married Dr. John J. Asch of New York City. 

A resident of Greenwich for more than 50 years, she was active in the community and demonstrated her commitment to caring for others. As an accomplished equestrian and horse lover, and recognizing the healing power of horses, Mrs. Asch co-founded the Pegasus Therapeutic Riding program for Fairfield County in 1976.

Mrs. Asch also was a Red Cross nurse's aide for more than 50 years and was an active bedside volunteer at Greenwich Hospital from the time of her move to Greenwich. Her long-standing commitment of service to others was recognized in 1988 when she was the recipient of the Louise Crisafi Community Award.
She will be remembered for her cheerful, can-do attitude, her desire to help, and her competence.

Surviving are her four children, Cathleen Asch Goss of Barrington Hills, IL, Jonathan Asch of Greenwich, Amanda Asch Halle of Salisbury, CT, and Andrea Asch of Richmond, VT. She also is survived by seven grandchildren, Alexander Goss, Justin Asch, Lily Asch, Sarah Halle, Timothy Halle, Lindsey Kelley, and John Kelley, and her brother, Jerome I. Rossman, Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL.

She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Asch, and her sister, Barbara Rossman Engel.
