Cecilia McTigue Kolenda, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, with her loving family by her side. She was 71.
Born in Greenwich, on Nov. 5, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Catherine McGinty McTigue.
Cecilia was a lifelong resident of Stamford and a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1959. She worked for the Stamford Board of Education for over 20 years and more recently for the Stamford Registrar of Voters. She was a member of St. Cecilia's Church and a member of the Sterling Farms and Hubbard Heights Women's Golf Leagues.
Cecilia is survived by her husband of 48 years, Chester Kolenda, of Stamford; two daughters, Patricia Karst (David), of Smyrna, GA, and Kelly Darcey (Patrick), of East Greenwich, RI; sisters, Joan Walsh and Catherine Sheehan; brother Richard McTigue, and four grandchildren; Alex Karst and Brendan, Quinlan, and Teagan Darcey. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was predeceased by a brother Thomas McTigue.
Cecilia's family will receive the condolences of friends and family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3 at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at St. Cecilia's Church, 1184 Newfield Ave., in Stamford. At the request of the family, the interment will be private.
The Kolenda family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Ave., in Stamford.
