Stamford Share the Road Survey: Update & Event Changes

I know nobody wants to talk about sharing the road right now: as I write this, snow is falling and everyone's just trying to get home safely.

If you were thinking about attending tonight's Long Ridge/High Ridge stakeholders meeting at the government center (I mentioned it in my last column) that meeting has been postponed due to the weather.

But all is not lost: if you were itching to learn about city transportation issues tonight I have good news for you: the Stamford Share the Road survey - which I designed to help People Friendly Stamford get feedback about several proposed bike infrastructure projects throughout the city -  has closed and the results are posted on People Friendly Stamford's web site

Not to give too much away, but just about every proposed project was given high marks - with a few of the city streets - including High Ridge and Long Ridge - cited as especially high priorities.

Also fascinating: when I closed the survey with an open-ended question on 'other thoughts on Stamford bike infrastructure' a noticeably large number of those comments centered around the need for bike parking. I wrote about bike parking last week on DIYBIKING.COM and provided a few examples of bike rack designs around the country hoping that David Martin and the good people in his administration get some ideas. Also, Stamford businesses can look at these racks and think to themselves about how they can encourage more employees and customers to bike to them.

While we're on the subject of Stamford businesses, one of them, the great coffee and cafe Lorca on Bedford Street, is hosting a social event Thursday night at 7:00pm called Folks N Spokes, which will be an opportunity for cyclists of all kinds to just get together and have fun. Hope you can make it, and no matter how you choose to get there, please travel safe.
