The Ferguson Forum -- 2013 Adult Summer Reading Club

The Ferguson Library is gearing up for the 18th Annual Adult Summer Reading Club with some terrific programs centered around the theme “Groundbreaking Reads.” Participate in the growing do-it-yourself movement by learning horticulture, creating arts & crafts and writing your own family history. We start the summer with a rock concert and commentary on music from the 50s and 60s, and close out the season in August with alternative folk music from The Kenn Morr Band.

Earn prizes for reading or listening to books. Earn a seed paper bookmark with a shovel when you register. After your third book, you’ll receive a drinking tumbler. After reading five books you’ll get a tote bag plus an invitation to our end of summer concert. Earn one raffle ticket for every book read, then bring tickets to the concert where we will hold a raffle with a Kindle Fire as the grand prize (must be present to win). Meet the Authors Wednesday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. Main Library Third Floor Auditorium Two authors who explore the inner reaches of the human heart discuss their latest work – Douglas Kennedy, author of Five Days and Amy Hatvany, author of Heart Like Mine.
Kick-off Event: Let It Rock! Sunday, June 9 at 2 p.m. Main Library Third Floor Auditorium. Hear electrifying music from the 50s to today, with commentary about rock & roll’s unique appeal and its solid hold on us. Presented by the Aesthetic Realism Theatre Company. Refreshments served at 1:30 p.m.
A Garden Patch Wednesday, June 12 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Harry Bennett Branch. Master gardener Walter Pugh talks about planting vegetables and herbs in containers.
Write It: A Family History Wednesday, June 26 at 6 p.m. Main Library Third Floor Auditorium. Learn how to write detailed biographies, interview family members and incorporate research into a compelling book about your own family. Presented by Donna Zucker, president of Your Story, Inc., a company that specializes in writing family history books.
Computer Programming Workshops Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Main Library Third Floor Computer Lab. Learn how to program in workshops presented by John Robert, a professional programming analyst. Registration required. Call 203 351-8224 or go online at www.fergusonlibrary.org.
   June 6 Introduction to Arduino Learn about Arduino, a physical computing platform based on a simple microcontroller board and write your own program.
  June 20 Advanced Arduino Learn to wire and program sensors on a microcontroller board and get hands-on help with coding samples.
