The Ferguson Forum
Welcome to The Ferguson Forum, The Ferguson Library's blog on Patch.com! This site will help keep you up to speed on events here at The Library.
As if the Corinthian columns and arched doorway weren’t enough to show off the grandeur of this building, The Ferguson Library now has two horse sculptures gracing the front. They are part The Stamford Downtown Special Services District summer art exhibit, Horsin’ Around, which placed 40 painted horses around the city to be auctioned in October. I may be biased, but I think The Ferguson’s horses are the neatest. The first, Book Ends by artist Nina Bentley, cleverly split the sculpture into a pair of (perfectly apropos) bookends. The copper-colored horse is captured in mid-trot, as if out for a stroll down Broad Street. The other sculpture, Soaring Over Stamford by artist Charles Fazzino, is a magnificent Pegasus, rearing on its hind legs. From its silvery wing tips to its pink bejeweled hooves, this equine specimen is magnificent in every way, but you have to get close to fully appreciate it. Look carefully and you’ll see a dazzling collage of all the landmarks in downtown Stamford. Starting with the Exit 7 sign at the top amidst confetti and hot air balloons and swirling around the horse’s torso, you can see stores, buildings, theatres and churches -- all the places that make Stamford a great city. Stop by The Ferguson Library soon and check out our horses…afterwards you can check out a great book!
