MacInspires Staff Tips- Summer Intern Alex's Favorite Multitasking Tip.

MacInspires Staff Tips - Lear a cool new feature for multitasking on your Mac from our summer intern Alex!

Spaces, an incredible feature on Mac computers, is my favorite Mac trick. While computers make it possible to do many things at once this can come at a price: clutter. An extremely simple way to organize multiple windows from various programs is through Spaces.

Basically, Spaces serves to create several different desktops each just a swipe or click away. Furthermore, Spaces allows you to assign programs to different desktops – increasing productivity and efficiency.

With Lion and Mountain Lion spaces is activated by opening Mission Control, to open Mission Control find the application on your dock or in the applications folder, newer computers also have a Mission Control key on the keyboard, it’s found immediately to the right of the brightness keys. Once Mission Control launches you will find the spaces towards the top of your screen, if you move your mouse towards the top right you will notice another small desktop pop up with a plus on it, click on that to create a new space. Spaces preferences can be found in the System Preferences under Mission Control. In addition to the key, or clicking on the application, you can enable keyboard or mouse shortcuts as well as hot corners to activate Mission Control.

Personally, I keep applications related to productivity in one space, while my entertainment programs are nestled together in another space. I find this to be an effective way to keep my work and play separate. Spaces are up to you though! So organize, mix, and swap spaces to fit your needs and, ultimately, make you a better, happier Mac user.
