State Rep. Gerald Fox III announced the Saint Joseph Parenting Center has received $20,000 in state funding to support their parenting program and also offer it in Spanish.

State Representative Gerald Fox III (D-Stamford) announced that Saint Joseph Parenting Center (SJPC) of Stamford has received $20,000 in state funding to support their parenting program. This grant will allow SJPC to expand their existing program and also offer it in Spanish.

“Saint Joseph Parenting Center is a unique organization that works to prevent child abuse and neglect through parent education,” said Rep. Fox. “I am glad to have been able to help secure the funding they need to further expand their already successful services designed to create safe and positive home environments for children."

SJPC is widely recognized for the innovative way it works with at risk families to help reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect. The program is offered free of charge to many of Fairfield County’s neediest residents.  Over 65% of its clients are referred by the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, a relationship of which SJPC is very proud.

Rep. Fox had worked to include the $20,000 in the state budget this year. The funding will be used to purchase bilingual teaching materials and to hire a part-time Spanish facilitator whose role would be to interact with the Hispanic community and DCF caseworkers.

Measi O’Rourke, Executive Director of SJPC expressed her appreciation, saying “SJPC is honored to be the recipient of a state grant and we are excited to be able to expand our program to reach our Spanish speaking neighbors. Innovative thinking is critical for growth, as nonprofit organizations work to deliver much needed services to those at risk in our community in today’s challenging economic times.”
