REP. FOX HONORED BY AARP - Recognized as strong advocate for seniors’ rights
Rep. Gerald Fox III is being recognized by AARP for his work on bipartisan legislation establishing new protections for seniors against financial improprieties and power of attorney abuses.
State Representative Gerald Fox III (D-Stamford) was recently recognized by the Connecticut chapter of AARP for his leadership on bipartisan legislation (HB5150) that establishes new protections for seniors against potential financial improprieties and power of attorney abuses.
Fox, House Chair of the Legislature’s Judiciary Committee, is being honored at AARP’s annual Volunteer & Partner Recognition event November 16 in Southington with their Legislative Achievement Award. AARP boasts nearly 600,000 members in Connecticut.

“Protecting the quality of life for senior citizens is an important responsibility of government,” said Fox. “After working throughout their lives and contributing to society, seniors deserve our respect and assistance to help them better enjoy their later years.”

The bill, which originated in Fox’s Judiciary Committee, enacts the Uniform Adult Protective Proceedings Jurisdiction Act, which establishes the apparatus for Connecticut probate courts to interact with courts in different states about conservatorship decisions.
AARP CT advocated in favor of the legislation, which is aimed at reducing the incidence of elder abuse by: permitting a court to consider which jurisdiction can best protect a person subject to abuse; facilitating communication between courts in different states about allegations of abuse; and transferring cases between states to remove individuals from abusive situations.
The legislation was signed into law by Governor Dannel P. Malloy in May and took effect October 1.
