Stamford Hospital Names New VP, Quality & Chief Quality Officer

Stamford Hospital is pleased to announce that Rohit Bhalla, M.D., M.P.H. has been named Vice President, Quality & Chief Quality Officer. Dr. Bhalla will be responsible for the oversight of quality, patient safety, care management, palliative care, resource utilization and the Hospitalist programs.

Prior to joining Stamford Hospital, Dr. Bhalla was at Montefiore Medical Center for a decade, where he served as Chief Quality Officer and previously as Medical Director, Quality Management.  He is also Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Under Dr. Bhalla’s leadership, Montefiore was awarded the Leapfrog Top Hospitals Award on three occasions; most recently, Montefiore was selected as one of 70 “Top Hospitals” from 1,200 hospitals. In the ambulatory arena, he led Montefiore to national recognition for clinical excellence in diabetes care, under the Bridges to Excellence program.

Among his external appointments, Dr. Bhalla is a member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Medical Quality and has served as Chair of the Greater New York Hospital Association Quality and Outcomes Research Committee.

Dr. Bhalla received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the Boston University School of Medicine six-year BA/MD program, and his Masters of Public Health from Columbia University.  He completed residencies in internal medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and in public health/preventive medicine at the New York City Department of Health, and is board certified in both specialties.
