Stamford Hospital Names Dr. David Gruen Director, Women's Imaging and Co-Director, Women's Breast Center

Stamford Hospital is pleased to announce that David Gruen, MD, MBA, has joined the organization as the new Director of Women’s Imaging and Co-Director of the Women’s Breast Center.

Dr. Gruen, who was one of the first in the region to perform MRI guided breast biopsies, is a co-author of the next release of the American College of Radiology's national guidelines for breast cancer detection.  He is an expert in high risk breast cancer detection; breast ultrasound and MRI; and minimally invasive image-guided breast procedures. He leads a team of skilled breast imagers at Stamford Hospital's Tully Health Center, the first site in Fairfield County to feature the latest and most advanced tool in the fight against breast cancer, 3D digital mammography with Tomosynthesis, and the Darien Imaging Center.

Dr. Gruen comes to Stamford Hospital from Western Connecticut Health Network, where he served as the Director of Women’s Imaging. Prior to that, he was the Director of Women’s Imaging at Norwalk Radiology and Mammography Center and was the Assistant Chief of the Norwalk Hospital Medical Staff. In addition, he served on the Norwalk Hospital Board of Trustees.

Dr. Gruen received a bachelor’s and medical degree from Cornell University, and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts. He completed residencies in anatomic pathology and diagnostic radiology at New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center. He also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in adult and pediatric oncologic imaging at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Gruen is a co-author of the American College of the Radiology Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Breast Cancer. He currently serves as the secretary of Radiology Society of Connecticut Executive Committee and as a Connecticut Councilor to the American College of Radiology Council Leadership Committee. In addition, Dr. Gruen is a member of the Board of Directors of the Susan B. Komen Foundation for the Cure – Connecticut affiliate.
