Hope in Motion, Walk, Run & Ride Organizers Announce Logistics, New Survivor Tribute

Hope in Motion, a year-long fundraising initiative, and its signature event, the Walk, Run & Ride, benefit the Bennett Cancer Center, its patients and their families.

This year, the Bennett Cancer Center’s annual Walk, Run & Ride, Hope in Motion’s signature event, will be held on Sunday, June 3, National Cancer Survivor’s Day. Organizers have announced the Walk, Run and Ride routes, last-minute registration details and the day-of schedule and entertainment.

In partnership with local houses of worship, police and government agencies and local businesses the event schedule will be as follows:

  • 7:00 a.m.         Registration Opens
  • 7:30 a.m.         Ride begins
  • 9:15 a.m.         Runner Warm-up
  • 9:30 a.m.         Run begins
  • 10:00 a.m.       Welcome musical performance by  Angelica Salem, Voice of an Angel
  • 10:15 a.m.       Survivor Picture
  • 10:30 a.m.       Walk begins

The day will consist of a 5K Walk, a 5K Run and a 10-, 20- or 50-mile Ride. Routes for each event are available online at www.hope-in-motion.org. The registration fee for the Walk and Run is $35.00 per person and includes an event t-shirt. All participants may pick-up their t-shirts and drop off donations at pre-registration on Saturday, June 2 from 12 – 4 p.m. in Columbus Park or at the registration tent on Sunday, June 3 in downtown Stamford’s Columbus Park. Runners are encouraged to pick up there bibs and timing chips at pre-registration on Saturday.

Registration for the Ride, which consists of three courses, is $100 and includes an event t-shirt. Riders that raise $250 by June 3 will also receive a Hope in Motion ride jersey.  Riders are encouraged to pick-up their bibs and t-shirts up at pre-registration on Saturday, June 2 in Columbus Park.

Riders can choose from a challenging, picturesque 50-mile route, a shorter, but just as scenic, 20-mile route or the 10-mile route through downtown Stamford. All courses begin and end at Columbus Park. The 50-and 20-mile courses feature frequent rest stops with replenishment fluids and nutritious snacks.

In light of the Bennett Cancer Center’s 20th anniversary this year, survivors will be recognized with a special tribute prior to the Walk start, when a group photo is taken on the stage. Also, video interviews from 20 survivors have been complied and will be played on a large screen throughout the day.

Last year, over 4,500 eager supporters gathered in downtown Stamford’s Columbus Park to participate in the event, which reached its $1 million fundraising goal for the first time in 16 years.  Event organizers have set the same $1 million fundraising goal for this year. All proceeds directly support the vital programs and services that benefit the Bennett Cancer Center’s patients and their families.
