FREE Microchips. Also Rabies & Dog Licensing Clinic 6/8

OPIN To Hold Sixth FREE Micro-chip Clinic for Pets on Saturday, June 8 - Rippowam Middle School, 381 High Ridge Rd., Stamford

OPIN (Outreach to Pets In Need), the Stamford organization dedicated to helping Stamford Animal Control, has announced their sixth FREE micro-chip clinic to be held on Saturday, June 8, 12pm - 2pm at Rippowam Middle School, 381 High Ridge Road, Stamford, CT.

“Project Chip’n” is a community outreach program which started in April 2012.  To date, 354 cats and dogs have benefited from this gift to the public.  The free microchip clinic is being held in conjunction with a rabies clinic and a City of Stamford dog licensing opportunity.

Cats and dogs (from all communities) can receive rabies vaccines for a low-cost of $20 (cash only as required by the State Dept. of Agriculture).   The City of Stamford Town Clerk’s office will be available to license Stamford dogs (cash or checks accepted).

At the same time, FREE microchips will be offered to both cats and dogs compliments of Outreach to Pets In Need (OPIN) and will include lifetime registration of the pet in the HomeAgain national database with absolutely no cost to the pet owner.  Microchipping is being offered to pets whether or not they need rabies or licensing.

A micro-chip is the size of a grain of rice and will be administered by a visiting veterinarian.  Should the pet then become lost or stolen, when scanned by a vet or animal shelter, the chip ensures return of the cat or dog.  Cats must be in carriers and dogs on leashes for their safety.

This community offering will help bring lost pets back home sooner and instill a greater sense of hope should a disaster strike that separates owners from their loving companion animals.

OPIN is an all-volunteer 501c3 organization that has dedicated itself to supporting the Stamford Animal Shelter since 2007.  One hundred percent of funds raised go toward medical care, dog training, microchipping, public education, foster care, adoption programs and toward improvements for a new City Animal Shelter.
