A fresh flower pomander is a ball-shaped bouquet or decoration that can be created small or large, in groups or alone or can be tied with a ribbon handle and are often used to decorate a party, as well as wedding celebrations. Flower balls are both unique and stunning to look at.
All you need is a floral foam sphere (available at any craft store) and flowers. Sturdy flowers such as carnations and Gerbera daisies can be used to ensure a clearly defined form. You may also use dahlias or any other favorite flower.
If you are making a centerpiece, first cut off the bottom of the sphere just enough so it can sit upright or use a whole sphere if you are creating hanging flowerballs. Then soak the sphere in water for at least 30 minutes with a flower food packet. Then dip each flower into the water mixture. This seals moisture into them, prolonging their life. Clip your flower stems short and insert them into the foam until completely covered. If needed, use a toothpick to help make holes for the stems. Display flower balls individually, or cluster balls of varying sizes and color on a favorite vase or tray to create a distinctive and dramatic centerpiece or try resting them on cake stands or pedestals.
They will turn out very pretty and are a lot of fun to create! Flower balls are truly the perfect centerpiece and party decoration. Check out some of these photos to give you more ideas.
