Westhill HS Student Honored with Lieberman College Scholarship

Claire Howlett is one of five HS graduating Connecticut students awarded a Joe Lieberman Connecticut Scholarship.

The Joe Lieberman Connecticut Scholarship Fund announced Friday that Claire Howlett, who graduated Westhill High School this year, will receive one of five $1,500 college scholarships, The Hartford Courant reports. Howlett will attend Stanford University in the fall, where she will major in Public Policy focusing on Human Rights and International Development with a minor in Statistics.

This is the second year that The Joe Lieberman Connecticut Scholarship Fund has awarded scholarships to Connecticut students preparing to start college or going into their sophomore year. Applicants were judged on their outstanding leadership potential and record of community service.

"Higher education can provide the foundation for greater opportunity and making a difference in local communities and our nation. I am grateful to have the chance to support these students as they advance in their academic studies," said Sen. Lieberman at a news conference announcing the new and renewed recipients, according to The Hartford Courant.
