Bone Marrow Match Sought for Stamford Boy, Kyle Markes, 11

Two bone marrow drives are scheduled in coming days. To see if someone is a match, a simple cotton swab swipe is taken.

A local Stamford boy, Kyle Markes, 11, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood leukemia, in November 2012, and is in immediate need of a transplant.

Unfortunately, Kyle's immediate family members are not bone marrow matches for Kyle. Kyle, who attends school in New Canaan and lives in Stamford, eagerly awaits for a match.

While all prospective donors are invitied to be tested, a match will likely be found among African American and Afro-Caribbean communities. The test is a simple cotton swab of the inside of one's mouth.

There are two bone marrow drives scheduled:

The need is ideally for people between the ages 18-44 (African American or Caribbean descent). The process is simple. Potential matches are given a cotton swab swipe.
Help will be provided to complete simple paperwork on site. There is no cost to register and insurance is not required.
