TAW ON SCREEN, FILM FESTIVAL

AT THEATRE ARTISTS WORKSHOP

As its name clearly states, the Theatre Artists Workshop concentrates on writing, directing and acting for live performance on the stage. But its members also work in film and television which, theatre economics being what they are, often provide the funds that support their underpaid stage work. And, theatre artists being what they are, they sometimes don't even get paid for their film efforts; they just love to work.

In recognition of that, the Workshop has gathered a few outstanding short films, many of them prize winners, on which its members have done paid or unpaid work as actors, writers and directors, to present to the public under the umbrella title TAW ON SCREEN. The dates are Sat., Mar 29 at 8 and Sun., Mar. 30 at 3.

In KNUCKS, featuring Frank Piazza, four middle-age guys, childhood friends, engage in a card game in which old scores are settled, secrets are revealed and their life-long power struggle ascends to a new level.

OH PROMISE ME, by Rosemary Foley, features Bob Adrian, Carolyn Marble, Sachi Parker, Nadine Willig and Allan Zeller in what's

probably the most unconventional funeral you've ever seen.

In NATIVE CORN, Donna Sorbello chokes on an ice cube while driving through corn country and finds an ingenious way to give herself the Heimlich maneuver while fulfilling a local man's dream.

David Pilot wrote and directed LAUNDROMAT, in which Mark Hamilton and Richard Leonard play two very different strangers with

absolutely nothing in common who make an unexpected but genuine human connection.

In DEAR OLD DAD, written and directed by Frederick Stroppel and starring James Noble, Joanna Keylock and Sachi Parker, two girlfriends try to decide what to do about one of their fathers, a handsome, elderly man who likes to takes his pants down and grope attractive young women.

Sean Hannon is the creator of two imaginative animated films: LEONARDO AND MONA, a witty fantasy about how Mona Lisa got her famous smile and DEJA VU, in which an elderly man and his dog have an extraordinary afternoon, discovering the dimension of reality where they really belong.

In LOCAL COMMERCIAL, Mark Graham plays an experienced feature film director, down on his luck and desperate, who stoops to directing a commercial starring a sleazy lawyer and a supporting cast with "issues" on a set encumbered by "assistant directors" trying to push their way to the top.

There is no admission charge for TAW ON SCREEN but donations are gratefully accepted. The not-for-profit workshop is located at 5 Gregory Blvd., East Norwalk.

The next presentation at the Workshop, their Spring Benefit, will be a Gala concert of Steven Sondheim's SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM, Fri. and Sat., Apr. 25 and 26 at 8, and Sun., Apr. 27, a twilight matinee at 6.

Tickets are $20, reservations 203-854-6830 or www.taworkshop.org.
