Next WBDC Radio Show to Mark 25th Anniversary of Law That Eased Businesswomen's Access to Capital

STAMFORD — In coming weeks, the Women’s Business
Development Council (WBDC) will mark the 25th anniversary of federal
law that eased women’s access to capital for commercial purposes. It was a
momentous legislation that led to an explosion in women’s entrepreneurship.

The law, HR50/50, enables women to obtain funding for
their own businesses without the requirement of a male relative to co-sign the
loan. As this prompted more and more women to venture into their own
businesses, a movement grew to train and educate women entrepreneurs across the
U.S. The WBDC has been a part of this movement for more than 16 years.

Teresa Younger, executive director of the
Connecticut Permanent Commission on the Status of Women, will highlight HR50/50
when she hosts the WBDC’s monthly radio show on WPKN 89.5 FM Tuesday, Oct. 1,
from noon to 1p.m.

Her guests will include Robin Imbrogno, president

Clements Consulting Services; and Heidi Holzer, principal of Heidi Holzer
Design and Decorative Work.

The celebration will continue at the WBDC’s annual
Business Breakfast Oct. 24 at the Stamford Marriott, where Younger also will
lead the conversation, focusing on the growing impact of women business owners
as decision makers, architects of change, and economic influencers.

“The WBDC annual breakfast has proven to evoke
stimulating conversations with long-term consequences,” said the WBDC’s CEO,
Fran Pastore. “We are proud to bring this topic of national economic interest
to the Connecticut community. With women fueling economic growth at an
unprecedented rate, WBDC intends to remain in the ‘driver’s seat,” helping
women in Connecticut and around the globe achieve economic equity through
small-business training and education at all phases of business development.”

The radio program will be a live conversation, and callers
can reach the host between noon and 1 p.m. by calling 203-331-9756.
